Lafayette Methodist Church was founded in 1836. In 1838, a three day meeting was held at Lafayette... "The meeting began in the Spirit.  The last day, however, was far the most glorious.  In the morning, 14 came forward as probationers; in the evening were more signal displays of Divine power, 13 being translated out of the kingdom of darkness." The Lafayette Church and its Methodist Heritage In 1880, the Lafayette Circuit of the London District is organized and with it comes our earliest records which we now have. There have been as many as 7 churches and as few as 2 in the Lafayette Charge. In 1892, the old frame building was torn down and a brick building was erected in its place. The 1892 building was destroyed by a propane explosion and flash fire on November 5, 1975.  No one was injured, but the building had to be replaced. The congregation worshiped at Deer Creek school from November 9, 1975 - July 10, 1977 when the present building was ready for use. One of the 1892 stained glass windows is now part of the present chancel area. One person, Gary Miller, was called into ministry from this congregation.
