- Lafayette Methodist Church was founded in
1836.
- In 1838, a three day meeting was held at
Lafayette... "The meeting began in the Spirit. The last day,
however, was far the most glorious. In the morning, 14 came
forward as probationers; in the evening were more signal displays of
Divine power, 13 being translated out of the kingdom of darkness."
The Lafayette Church and its Methodist Heritage
- In 1880, the Lafayette Circuit of the
London District is organized and with it comes our earliest records
which we now have.
- There have been as many as 7 churches and
as few as 2 in the Lafayette Charge.
- In 1892, the old frame building was torn
down and a brick building was erected in its place.
- The 1892 building was destroyed by a
propane explosion and flash fire on November 5, 1975. No one
was injured, but the building had to be replaced.
- The congregation worshiped at Deer Creek
school from November 9, 1975 - July 10, 1977 when the present
building was ready for use.
- One of the 1892 stained glass windows is
now part of the present chancel area.
- One person, Gary Miller, was called into
ministry from this congregation.
